Phil's Page - A Review of recent club events.

September 2nd.
A digital-age enigma delayed the start of a presentation by Amanda Harman, but when it got going we had an interesting account of her varied experiences as a professional photographer, from encouraging young people into photography, to producing prints for sale in galleries.

September 9th.
Tonight saw the first of our four Club Competitions, and John Hoskins of Frome judged a healthy volume of entries, which must prove that members still enjoy the thrill of competing and are keen to hear the views of respected club photographers on the pictures they put in.

September 16th.
We kept the prints from last weeks Club Competition Number One, and ‘reviewed’ them ourselves tonight, bearing in mind the comments of the judge. In the second half, member Geoff Mallin gave us a few pointers towards making an A/V using available software. It was an ‘open evening’, and we welcomed a couple of visitors.

September 23rd.
Michael Krier from Cheltenham described his journey, as a mature student, to attaining an MA in photography, on the way arguing that whatever your concept of the genre, there is always ‘another way’.

September 30th.
Visiting us from North Wales, Tom Dodd has enjoyed the outdoor life in his job and spare time, and has indulged his love of photography to boot, hence we saw a lifetime of images, coloured by his passion for monochrome printing.

October 7th.
As an enthusiastic member of the Sealed Knot Society, Steve Dury from Weston Super Mare naturally presented many prints of ‘musters’ and other events relating to English civil war re-enactments that his team put on all over the country, but as a lifelong photographer we were also treated to a wealth of other subject matter. Steve’s interest in military history also provided us with a mini re-enactment of our own, with the capable assistance of his equally well-dressed partner.

October 14th.
Members Lloyd, Alan, Richard and Sue each gave short talks on aspects of manipulating digital images, including the use of layers and dodging and burning, using Elements and Photoshop.

October 21th.
A dozen or so members braved the October evening air for a walk around the streets of central Bath in an attempt to improve their night photography. A good old natter in the pub after rounded off the meeting in the traditional manner.

October 28th.
Tonight was our annual audio visual competition for the Dave York Trophy. The judge, Roger Mallinson, said the entry was of a high standard. The winning entry was "Minack Theatre" by Joanne Searle; with "Cabot Circus" by Sue Winkworth being the runner up.
