A VERY WARM WELCOME TO HANHAM PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

Dear Visitor

We welcome you as a visitor to Hanham Photographic Society (affectionately known as HPS) and hope you find our club friendly and interesting. To give you an insight into some of our activities, we have compiled this short introduction for you to read at your leisure.

Our meetings are held every Wednesday throughout the year at the Hanham Methodist Church Hall and begin at 7.3Opm (for a 7.45pm start).

In our programme we try to incorporate all our members' interests, such as lectures by highly-skilled photographers, audio-visual productions, practical evenings and a Digital Imaging Group which meets once a month. Please ask one of our committee members if you would like a programme so that you can take it away and peruse it at home.

We all enjoy the very relaxed social side of the club's activities; these include weekend walks, and visits to places of interest, as well as some summer evenings out on our club night. We also have an annual barbecue and Christmas social.

We occasionally have get-togethers with other clubs when we show other clubs our pictures (and vice versa), or hold photographic 'battles' with them.

We have a modest library, which we are slowly building up, which contains photographic journals, books, videos and CD-ROMs which members are able to view at home. These cover many aspects of photography and are very interesting.

Throughout the winter months we run a series of competitions for both monochrome and colour workers. Details of all these competitions are available from our competition secretaries.

Our big event of the year is our Annual Exhibition when we exhibit our work to members of the general public. This gives us a chance to show our work outside of the photographic world, and to advertise our club. It is from the people that visit these exhibitions that we sometimes gain new members.

Our finances are drawn from annual subscriptions and special fund raising events such as our Annual Auction, when members bring along their unwanted photographic items and two of our members auction them to club members. Items are either donated by members, or they are sold with a percentage going towards the club. This is always a very light-hearted evening!

I do hope that this whets your appetite enough for you to come along and join us on a permanent basis. We grant a 50% reduction in membership fees to people aged 16-21 who are in full time education. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to call us on 01275 832053. We all look forward to seeing you!
